Thesis and Intro:
President Truman's decision to drop the Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was justified because the US needed to stop the spread of fascism. If the US didn't bomb Japan the war would of prolonged and many more lives would of been cost because the Japanese refused to surrender to the allies. If the United States didn't choose to bomb Japan, we would of suffered many more lives due to the US having to invade the mainland and cost the lives of American soldiers. The atomic bombs also demonstrated the strength of the US government and military.
The United States needed to show power after the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan. World War II needed to be ended and President Truman had a decision to make between invading the mainland of Japan or bombing them. If the US military invaded the mainland many American lives would of been taken. Instead, the US decided to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the first bomb dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945 the United States asked for Japan's surrender. Japan would not listen to the Allies, so three days later August 9th, 1945 a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Finally, Japan decided to surrender after both bombs were dropped and many lives were lost for Japan. The bombs did not just cause physical damage. It scared not only the Japs, but everyone once they realized how destructive the bombs were. It was the Japanese fault for the destruction of their two cities because they brought the United States into the war and did not listen to the Allies when they asked for them to surrender.
